C is for confidence. Your business coach will help you clarify your vision for your business. They will be your confidential sounding board as you develop and put in place your business plan. O is for objective. Your business coach is an objective, outside observer. They will guide you with suggestions and timely feedback to achieve better short, medium and long term objectives. Smarter objectives will ensure you stay focused on your vision. All businesses are acts of creation and happen in two parts. First they are created in your mind, through your vision and secondly they are created in reality. All too often, business owners micro‐manage the parts of a business where they feel most comfortable. Your business coach will prompt you to step back and look at the ‘big picture’.
A is for ask. Your business coach will not impose ideas or solutions on your business. That is the role of specialist consultants, rather they will ask you the right questions at the right time to clarify your thinking, your ideas and guide your actions. As a leader you are the conductor of your own orchestra. You may think of yourself as violinist or percussionist, but when you start a business you must step out of your comfort zone, take on new responsibilities and learn new skills. Your business coach will remind you of the baton when you reach for the bow or the stick. They will be your teacher in this daunting position, up front, taking the lead, achieving total harmony.
C is for cash. Cash is the lifeblood of business. Businesses fail because they bleed to death through insufficient cash flow. Turnover is vanity, profit is very nice but CASH IS KING. Your business coach will ensure you always have your finger on the pulse of your business, that you don't procrastinate or focus only where you feel comfortable. Your business coach will be your cheerleader. There will be tough decisions, long hours and hard work. They will support you, encourage you and listen to you when you need someone to be on your side. The bottom line is that your business coach will bring in more cash.
H is for honing. Nobody gets better at anything without quality feedback. Think of your driving skills! You were never better than when you qualified for your license and you've been slipping into bad habits ever since. You can't afford bad habits when driving your business. Your business coach will guide you to hone your management skills, to develop professionally, as you get the job done. When you are sawing wood it is essential to stop regularly and sharpen your saw. Decision-making, planning and organizing, delegating, leading meetings and time management are just some of the key saws for the business leader. They all need regular sharpening.

Initially, you will meet with your coach for 4 sessions in the first month, and the focus is getting to know each other so that the coach learns your business strengths and weaknesses. Then together, once we have identified the areas of greatest need and have identified some untapped opportunities, we develop an action plan for moving forward. This is followed by assigning you specific actions to take before the next session.
Every meeting begins with a quick review of your prior week, i.e. what you specifically did to move your business forward, exchange ideas about upcoming projects or challenges, and develop another action plan for the upcoming week.
While a business coach definitely does some consulting, a consultant generally does not coach. To use a sports analogy, an American football coach never touches the ball during a game; the coach helps the Quaterback lead the team to do their best. A special team unit however, is like a consultant; they are called in to perform a specific task during the game and are actually on the field.
Typically, a consultant is project/problem specific, and details findings in a report. Some consultants are specialists dealing with a certain area of a business. For example, a consultant might be able to tell you how to eliminate waste in a manufacturing process or design your website. Other consultants are generalists working on a range of issues, but again there is a specific deliverable in mind, a report or a recommendation to make a specific change or set of changes to a business. The consultant generally leaves behind a report that the client then implements on their own. Consultants are specifically valuable to a company when they need a certain expertise for a short period of time and where it is not economically justified or even feasible to maintain this level of expertise in house.
A coach doesn't concentrate on a single area, doesn't necessarily prepare formal reports, doesn't concentrate ONLY on the business, and doesn't leave once a specific project is completed. A coach is there for you - 24 hours a day - to help you, guide you, motivate you, improve you, your effectiveness, and improve your entire business. The coach's primary goal is capability building, helping the business to be self sufficient, so that the staff can solve issues on their own and to become capable of sustaining that improved performance.
As the owner, it is up to you to lead your company to where you want it to be. However, you may not be conscious of all of the areas of your business that, if addressed, can have massive results. Very often, business owners like you are too busy doing the everyday tasks.

Your coach also focuses on your personal life. The business world has seen thousands of great leaders that are miserable with their personal lives, and the effects are disastrous. The line between your business and personal life is too closely connected to ignore the effects on each other.
That's up to you. Think back to the dreams that you had when you started your business. Do you have the same passion now that you did before? Probably not.
The coaching process - by combining your pursuit for personal excellence with excellent business strategies - is the best of both worlds. Once you know what you want in your life, develop a plan that will provide it, and take congruent actions on a daily basis, your enthusiasm returns. It becomes fun again, and your profits climb!
There's NOTHING like it.
You may not need a coach. You may not even be "coachable", i.e. you may already "know everything." However, every top performer in the world - from top athletes, to the President of the United States - has mentors, coaches and advisors.
In studies of successful individuals, certain characteristics are always found: They are always goal oriented, they are always very persistent, and finally, they always have a person or group of persons that they meet with regularly to brainstorm and learn!
Simply ask yourself: On a scale of 1-100, "how do I perform right now?" If your honest answer is less than 100 - a coach can help you. Period.
The process is not a magic wand. Certainly, you have been to a seminar and left recharged and planning wonderful changes. Almost as certain is that you probably forgot everything from the seminar within ninety days. We all do it.
